DEPARTMENT OF EASTERN HIMALAYAS AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

1. EASTERN HIMALAYAN STUDIES (EHS)

A. Eastern Himalayan studies is a new concept and a paper introduced in the year 2008 in all the undergraduate courses as a c omp ulsory paper for 100 marks by SIKKIM UNIVERSITY. This is basically a interdisciplinary subject and the paper tries to bring awareness to the students especially of local areas. This paper is based on AREA STUDIES. The whole of Eastern Himalayas can be understood through this paper.

B. The paper/subject being the compulsory one, there is a huge no of learners and the lack of human resource (FACULTY) is on e of the biggest problems being faced by the college.

C. in order to deliver the good quality of Education among the students, the department needs to have a different library whe re there is availability of good quality books having information about EASTERN HIMALAYAS.

D. since this paper/subject is totally new to most of the learners, there is still no scope of continuing with higher studies in this particular paper as there is no MA/NET/SLET and research in the paper. The subject EASTERN HIMALAYAS should have a different center for HIMALAYAN STUDIES as to include this particular paper in UGC NET/SLET P.HD and research programmes.

E. Infrastructural development like separate library facilities, different departments, smart classrooms, OHPs to show some documentaries related with EASTERN HIMALAYAS.

F. Organisation of field based activities(FIELD TRIP) to be funded by the concerned department in order to bring interests among the students in Eastern Himalayas.
