Namchi, June 5th: SGC Namchi observed the world
environment day under the banner of their institution’s Nature Club/ Eco club
which has been fostering environmental mindfulness and providing students with
hands-on experience on nature conservation. This year in accordance with the
global theme of nature based climate solutions the college decided to focus on
involving the students in a plantation drive requiring every participant to
plant a sapling. The saplings were provided by Mr. Tseten Tashi Lepcha, DFO(T)
Forest and Environment Department, Namchi. The NSS club of the institution
distributed the saplings to all the 19 departments to be engaged in the
activity. While speaking about the event and the importance of organising
similar activities annually for the World Environment Day, Prof. Deepak Tiwari,
Principal, SGC Namchi asserted that every student who graduates from our
institution must have a sense of responsibility towards the long term health of
our environment. The plantation drive saw a large number of students and
teachers actively participating in the activity championing the cause for
environmental preservation.
